During the Great Change, they released an ancient spell against the Arachnians that backfired catastrophically, converting their bodies into soft crystalline substance. They now call themselves the "Living Jewels" in their own tongue. Aloof and calculating, Penthanians harbor a deep envy toward the Frontacians who retained their flesh and magical jewels. They possess natural night vision and exceptional intelligence, though their crystalline composition impedes natural healing.
