Flerian illustration

Overview

Flerians are communal by nature and live in living groups called burrows: cavernous underground communities of dug-out homes clustered around edible fungi, most often kelwop. Burrow leadership is usually a Burrowmaster, chieftain, or whatever title a burrow decides upon.

Sharing and borrowing possessions is the norm, and Flerians are raised to grab anything that is not nailed down. This makes them a nuisance in many cities, where they are often exiled, banned, or jailed. Most towns eventually give up trying to keep them out, as they tend to reappear anyway.

Background

Flerian burrows are scattered across the continent, usually in highlands with hills and forests. They avoid building too close to major cities for fear of destruction. Their largest burrows sit on the edge of the Great Forest in southern Aradath, just east of the Odarian Highlands.

Flerians are not known for large-scale fighting. The only attempt at a Flerian army ended with the force beating itself into a retreat before the enemy ever arrived.

Temperament

Flerians are friendly, curious, talkative, and often dramatic. They have short attention spans and a light-hearted, jovial spirit. They care little about possessions beyond the next interesting thing to pick up, but are fiercely loyal to their own kind and to anyone who takes time to know them.

Long, focused study is difficult for most Flerians, which is why magick is rare among them.

Tendencies

Flerians rarely find themselves at the center of major world events. Their short attention spans and the tendency of others to overlook them keep them on the fringes. Still, their curiosity makes them surprisingly brave, often venturing into dangers other races avoid.

Many Flerians meet their end through freak accidents or encounters with very large teeth, leaving most of the race to wonder what happened to lost relatives.
