Hithual illustration

Overview

Doggedly industrious and stubborn as a mule, Hithuals are steadfastly loyal to family, clan, and those they call friend. Coming from a rich mining tradition, they love being underground. Their night vision and strength, paired with their impeccable work ethic, make them successful in nearly anything they choose to pursue.

Hithuals are partially resistant to magick. Some say it comes from millennia underground among residual magick in the Great Divide; others say their distrust of magick became genetic. Either way, they are suspicious of anyone who claims to use it.

Background

Generally from wealthy families, Hithuals are a frugal people. Their clans pass riches from generation to generation, each striving to add more to the treasury.

They are a warlike race, and clan battles are not unusual. The largest community, Aerhauven, lies within the Great Divide, a massive mountain range cutting the continent nearly in half.

Legend holds that Hithual mines and tunnels run from coast to coast and that those who know the clan passwords can travel the entire span underground.

Temperament

Fun-loving, brave, proud, and stubborn. Hithuals work and play with equal gusto. They make acquaintances easily, but true friendships with outside races are rare and usually forged in combat.

Tendencies

Hithuals love practical jokes and will accept a prank if it is clever, as long as no other Hithual sees them get caught. They love to drink and will drink with anyone, especially ale.

They are nearly impossible to get drunk, making drinking contests a fast way to lose money. They distrust shortcuts such as magick, thievery, and even charity: anything worth having is worth working for.
