Penthanian illustration

Overview

Named in their own tongue, “Living Jewels,” the Penthanians were the authors of the UnMagick loosed at the Great Change. The backlash transformed their bodies into crystalline forms and robbed them of most sense of touch.

Hardened, jealous, and self-centered, they are fairly rare in Spur and envy the Frontacians who retained flesh and jewels.

Background

Penthanians originate on the northern edge of the Great Divide overlooking the Great Wastes created by UnMagick. Before the Great Change they were part of the Frontacian Empire, a mighty city-state of mages.

In their war against the Arachnians of Arcania, they unleashed an ancient spell of Telfast. They stripped the Arachnians of magick, but the spell rebounded, transforming the Penthanian Frontacians into crystalline beings. Other races were created and the world changed in ways still shrouded in mystery.

Temperament

Penthanians are aloof and unfeeling, with little compassion or sympathy for others. In dealings with other races, they can be calculating and purposefully deceitful.

They are envious of Frontacians, who still have flesh and magick jewels.

Tendencies

Pents are calculating and plan actions with great care. They look for advantage and manipulate situations until it is even more in their favor.

They are proud and aloof, serving themselves most of the time.
