Start with the Quartermaster

New characters arrive in the Quartermaster's Armory with torches and no money. The training gear you need is free.

Your first equipment

  1. Type LOOK to read the room, then LIST to see the Quartermaster's stock.
  2. Use BUY <number> to take a free training weapon, suitable armor, and a shield if your build uses one.
  3. Type INVENTORY. Equip a weapon with READY <inventory number> and armor or a shield with WEAR <inventory number>.
  4. Run INVENTORY again after each item is equipped; inventory numbers can change.
  5. Use INFO for your character and equipment overview, and SKILLS for learned skills.

Meet the Yardmaster

From the Quartermaster, move east to the Yardmaster's Station. This central yard leads toward physical practice areas and a tower used by rune-mages, psions, and healers. Use LOOK in every room and follow the displayed exits.

This guide deliberately stops short of mapping every room. Exploration and discovery are part of the game.

Learning and training are separate

SKILLS shows what you already know. At an appropriate trainer, LEARN LIST shows new abilities, while TRAIN LIST shows what can be advanced there. DGR does not use the specialization or tier-point directions that may still appear in inherited ATS output.

Safe combat practice

The yard's Butts contain practice targets. With a melee weapon readied, KILL TARGET performs a basic attack. The target responds, and leaving the room ends the exchange. These rooms state that fighting there does not produce learning, so treat them as command practice rather than advancement.

CommandPurpose
KILL <target>Make a basic melee attack with your equipped weapon.
ASSESSReview positions in the current room.
RETREATMove backward within a room; this is not the same as leaving through an exit.
HEALTHReview current health and resources.

When you need help

  • Try HELP <command>, but remember that some beta help files are incomplete or still contain old Tempest Season references.
  • Use ORACLE <message> only when you genuinely need staff assistance; it alerts available staff and logs the request.
  • Ask ordinary gameplay questions in the community Discord so other players can help without sharing account information.
